Just Breathe

Are you breathing right now, as you read this?

Seriously....check yourself. You might have email apnea. It's a real thing!

Email apnea, or screen apnea is defined as the temporary cessation of breath or shallow breathing while working (or playing!) in front of screens.

Linda Stone, a writer, researcher, and former executive at Apple and Microsoft, noticed that about 80% of the people she observed and tested would unconsciously hold their breath, or breathe shallowly, when responding to email or texting.

I'm guilty. How about you??

Today - it's time to breathe.

When we remember to breathe fully, we provide our bodies with a rich supply of oxygen to invigorate our cells and tissues. Blood circulation improves, we start to reduce the ravaging effects of stress, calm tension and encourage a more pleasant state of mind;)

Not only do we immediately boost our energy and calm our spirit when we breathe fully, we also oxygenate our complexion with a brightness that no over-the-counter beauty potion could ever provide.

Of course, it's great if you can take a yoga class...but, you can also start to drink in more precious life-force energy with just a few minutes of simple, mindful breathing.

Wanna try it with me??

Got 5 minutes?

Today, we're going to give ourselves the gift of our own sexy self care, and it's only going to take 5 minutes.

Here's how we're gonna to do it:

Set your timer for 5 minutes. Find a comfortable position...and just observe your breathing.

For 5 minutes, you're simply going be mindful of taking in energy through your own breath.

Notice how your body feels as you relax and breathe. You don't need to do anything special. You don’t need to force your breathing. You don’t need to do anything at all. Just let go, relax and be aware of your natural breathing for a few moments. Trust that your breath will find a natural rhythm. Know that with each breath, you are filling yourself up with beautiful life-force energy. Feel your belly rise and fall. Let your breath fill every part of you.

Just breathe in and out and let yourself feel the gift of this energy.

Conscious breathing is like a free energy shot. All it takes is our willingness to be mindful.

We can brighten our energy, our spirit and our complexion by simply breathing.

Breathing mindfully can help us to deflect stress and anxiety, soothe our emotions, calm our tempers and frustrations, give us better clarity and concentration...it's like having our own stress-relieving, brain-boosting, beauty potion that is available anytime we choose to access it.

Let's do our best to avoid email apnea - try to be more mindful of your breathing when in front of screens. Be aware of taking fuller breaths while you are sitting at the stop light on the commute to and from work, or during a particularly stressful phone call. Breathe when you're cleaning up the kitchen, while you shampoo your hair, or before you drift off to sleep at night. Take 5 minutes to just breathe.

Share with me what you observed when you took the time to breathe more mindfully.

Remember, there's nothing more badass than taking care of yourself.
