Smell This ...

If you know me, you know how much I love essential oils.

I diffused them in my office and used them on your temples, acu-points and bottoms of your feet during your acupuncture session.

I love essential oils not just because they smell divine, but because of their therapeutic benefits for every day wellness.

I still use essential oils for my own self care and recommend that you do, too.

Essential oils have too many benefits to list here, but in a nutshell, these simple yet exquisitely healing oils can help calm and soothe our stress and anxiety (think: lavender), uplift our spirit (orange), encourage more clarity (lemon), help ease a headache (peppermint), invigorate our energy (spearmint), open our sinuses (eucalyptus) and help support our immune system (oregano) during cold and flu season.

Another thing I love about essential oils is that they can benefit the whole family, including children of all ages and furry companions.

Here are a few essential oils recipes for you to play with. Follow the recipe or tweak it to your preference. You also might like using only a single oil.

Lift Me Up:
5 drops Orange and 3 drops Peppermint

Stress Buster:
5 drops each: Orange, Bergamont, Ylang ylang, Sandalwood

To use:

Mix into your favorite oil (I like apricot or jojoba) and apply to wrists, temples, ears, throat or bottoms of your feet.

Diffuse in your favorite diffuser.

Put 1-3 drops in the palms of your hands, rub together, breathe in deeply

One of the best immune support essential oil blends for winter wellness and protecting ourselves from cold and flu during this season is a blend called Ancient Robbers....or you may know it as Thieves. It was created based on research about four thieves who, during the 15th-century plague, used aromatics to protect themselves while robbing plague victims! It's a blend of potent oils including clove, rosemary, lemon, cinnamon and eucalyptus. It is excellent to keep handy for every day use, and it's also great when traveling.

If you need some guidance on getting your hands on a good quality essential oil, my very favorite oils are Ancient Wisdom Essential Oils. I've been using them for over 10 years, and they are the only oils I used in my practice. They are not available in stores, but you can get them HERE.

AncientWisdomEssentialOils.com carries single oils, blends and sets. I especially love the blends. If you want my signature scent, it's Serenity Composure.

Some of the other blends that I love are Bravely, Inner Voice, Baby Soft, Freedom, Sinus Relief and Ancient Robbers (otherwise known as Thieves).

What's your favorite??
