What do you do to comfort a cough or sore throat ? 🤕

Updated: Mar 25, 2020

Oh, sweetie!

Sore throat and a cough is no fun.

Quick! What are a few things that can naturally comfort a cough and soothe a sore throat?

Here you go:

  • Eat these foods: fresh pears (Asian pears are best and canned pears will work in a pinch), asparagus, mashed banana, figs, raw honey, fresh lemon, lime, green onion (including the root) miso, tempeh and tofu cool the lungs and can help soothe a cough or sore throat.

Ancient Roman Sore Throat Remedy

8-10 cloves of fresh garlic, chopped or pressed

Raw honey (enough to cover the garlic completely)

Cayenne (a pinch to 1/4 tsp)

Mince the garlic fine or put it through a garlic press and place in a bowl. Cover completely with raw honey and a pinch or sprinkle of cayenne. Mix well.

Take about 1 teaspoon every hour if you have a sore throat, or 1 spoonful three times a day for prevention. Not only will this soothe and help heal a sore throat, but it is a simple way to get more garlic for immune support. 🧛‍♀️ (not for infants under 1 year)

Honey Lemon Cough Syrup

Put a pint of local raw honey in a pan on the stove on VERY low heat (Do not boil honey as this changes its medicinal properties).

Take a whole organic lemon and drop in boiling water in a separate pan for 2-3 minutes to both soften the lemon and kill any bacteria that may be on the lemon skin.

Let the lemon cool enough to handle then cut it in slices and add it to the pint of honey on the stove.

Let mixture cook on warm heat for about an hour.

Then strain the lemon from the honey, making sure all lemon seeds are removed.

Let cool, then bottle in a glass jar with a lid and store in the refrigerator.

This syrup will keep for 2 months in the refrigerator.

To soothe a cough, take 1/2 teaspoon for a 25 lb. child and 1 teaspoon for a 50 lb. child, about 4 times a day, or as often as needed. Do NOT give to infants under 1 year of age. Adults can take 1 tablespoon doses.

  • Drink this tea: Hot water with fresh lemon juice and raw honey has been used for centuries to soothe a sore throat and promote good health. Licorice root, marshmallow root, slippery elm are wonderful with honey to quiet coughs and calm throats. You can grab a convenient and beloved Thoat Comfort combo in tea bags from Wellevate. Mulberry leaf tea can also be found in tea bags and is great to relieve cough due to lung heat or dryness. Matcha green tea is an excellent immune booster, full of antioxidants. Drink tea. Super simple. Super sexy. ☕️

Flu Fighting Tea

(Ancient Chinese Secret cold and flu tea)

  • Juice a bunch of citrus for some serious vitamin C. Grapefruit, orange, limes and lemons.

  • 3 inches of ginger peeled and finely chopped

  • 2 cloves of fresh garlic finely chopped

  • 2 - 3 green onions, root and white part only, chopped

  • 1 - 2 tablespoons raw honey

  • Pinch of cayenne powder if you've started running a fever

Add ginger, garlic and juice to a saucepan, cover and gently heat for at least 5 - 10 minutes. Strain if desired and add cayenne and raw honey. Sip until you feel human again!

  • Rub this point: Acupuncture point Lu 5, Chize has been used for thousands of years to soothe a cough and ease sore throats. Find it on the inside of your elbow crease, when your palm is up. The point is on the thumb side of the tendon when you make a fist. Press, tap, rub with the pointy end of your crystal to stimulate this point. Do it often.

  • Stay warm. Grandma was right. Keeping your neck, throat and back warm and protected from drafts is helpful in protecting your energy and supporting your immune response so your amazing and beautiful body can heal.

  • There's a crystal for that ... Get stoned with Blue Chalcedony - an exquisite crystal gem that has a soft, ethereal, divine and gentle energy. It is connected to the throat chakra and therefore helps to cool and calm any inflammation and discomfort in this area. Lie back, close your eyes, and place a small, magical stone at the base of your throat (and if you have extra, place one on either side of your nose or one one your forehead.) Visualize yourself healthy, vital, compassionate and in your full power and expression 💙Meditation with this crystal can be extremely healing physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Be well, sweetheart. 💙

And if you need more resources, here you go: when you feel run down, want to avoid colds, flu and COVID-19, need to know what to DO if you're sick ... and lots of recipes for what to EAT when you have a cold .. and so much more. Whew.

Girl, I got you.

Rock on, Sister 🔮
