Our bodies are so amazing. We naturally have the built-in badass ability to kill pathogens that could cause dis-ease ... FEVER 🔥
Viruses and other pathogens can thrive at normal body temperatures, so our body temperature will naturally raise when our immune system is flexing its muscle. Luckily, our body knows exactly what to do to be healthy.
But, we certainly don't FEEL like healthy superheros when we're hot with fever. In fact, it can feel downright miserable. We don't want to mess with our bodies' innate wisdom and kickass ability to fight infection ... but damn! What can we do to soothe our suffering??
Luckily, you've got a sister who's got your back. 😉
Here are a few super simple, super sexy ways to soothe a fever, naturally:
Drink up. Staying hydrated is really, really important when you have a fever. You probably won't feel hungry when you have a fever, because digesting food takes a TON of energy and your body is conserving all your precious resources to heal and fight infection. But, it's extra important to remember each hour to drink fluids. Coconut water is full of natural electrolytes to promote hydration, herbal tea, hot water with lemon, chicken bone broth, and foods with high water content like soups, smoothies or steamed veggies are great choices. Of course, you can also just drink pure plain water ... even ice chips. Super simple, super sexy.
Take a bath ... This is a comforting and soothing way to hydrate. Use Epsom salts - they are high in magnesium and can help soothe muscles and draw toxins out of the body. No one wants a hot bath when they have a fever! Instead, try a lukewarm epsom salt bath or sponge bath -- you can add essential oils, such as lavender or rosemary for more cooling and calming. Secret: Even just dipping your feet in cool water will often help to bring down a fever.
Ancient Chinese Secret Soup. This is one of the very first ancient Chinese home remedies I learned to drink at the very first sign of chills and fever. Drink this "soup", bundle up and go to bed.
Ingredients:
1 - 2 inch knob of ginger, peeled and cut into thin slices
4 green onions, sliced, white and roots only (yes, that's what I said)
3-4 cloves of raw garlic, thinly sliced
Half of a fresh lemon, sliced (optional)
4-6 cups chicken bone broth
Directions:
Add all ingredients to chicken broth in a small pot. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 - 15 minutes. Drink hot. Bundle up. Go directly to bed.
Rest up. Go to bed. Please. Let your body heal. When you insist on pushing through work and your normal routine, or even pushing harder to get through the day, your body does not have the energy for your immune system to do its job. Rest as much as you can. Without it, you won't heal. Period. Cozy up, get on the couch, go to bed, stop doing and start just be-ing.
Rub these points. These acupuncture points have been used for thousands of years to reduce heat in the body, soothe sore throats, calm and restore our energy. Press, tap with the pointy end of your crystal, apply essential oils, like Ancient Robbers, peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender or tea tree or simply rub firmly. Secret: acupuncturists will often use a lancet and prick these points to release a few drops of blood. This will reduce an acute fever.
Cold crystals offer soothing relief ... place a cold clear quartz, amethyst, amber, fluorite or hematite on your feverish forehead and rest, allowing the powerful energy of these crystals soothe your suffering and cool your fever.
Visualize yourself healthy. Use this little audio I recorded for you to help. Your body believes everything you think and say. Remind yourself that You are so Healthy.
There you go. While a fever is seriously uncomfortable, I hope these little suggestions help soothe your suffering while your body does its kick-ass job of healing.
Rock on, Sister 🔮
