What do you do when ... it's too Hot 🔥

Because I practice the principles of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, I can help my patients by phone with lifestyle medicine.
The other day, I was talking to one of my lovelies and it went a little something like this:
Client: OMG ... it is so freaking HOT!🔥 I don’t have air-conditioning and I’m feeling all flushed and irritable. I can’t sleep, and when I do, I have the most bizarre dreams. I got in a fight with my husband and actually started feeling heart palpitations!
ME: Oh girl, I feel you. It’s totally understandable. In Chinese Medicine, summer is associated with the heart ... so when summer heat is too intense, we might experience heart palpitations, insomnia, restlessness, irritability and excessive sweating.
These are the lifestyle prescriptions I gave her to cool her fire:
❤️ Rub, tap or apply an ice cube to this point, HT 7, shen men. It's at the pinky finger side of your wrist crease. This point is specific to calm our heart, soothe irritability and feel more at ease in our mind and body.
💦 At night before bed, take a lukewarm or cool bath or soak your pretty little feet in some cool water with 1 cup of Epsom salts, 1/2 cup baking soda and a few drops of peppermint or lavender essential oil. This will help to cool your system and drain some of that heat so you can get some beauty sleep.
🥒 Drink extra water. Keep it from getting boring by adding colorful juicy fruits or cooling herbs like berries, lemon, lime, watermelon, cucumber, mint, cilantro or lemon balm.
🍉 Cool your fire by eating light, juicy, cooling foods like grapes, cucumber, pears, melon, celery, lettuce, apples, parsley ... and drink teas like mint, dandelion and valerian.

🥬 Eat slowly
🍔 Avoid fast foods and rich, fatty, fried food and heavy proteins, like pork and lamb. Eat until you are only 70% full
🔥 Slow your roll
You're hot, honey. 😉 Take this opportunity to slow down. Walk instead of run. Sashay instead of walk. Go ahead ... glide like a goddess - Lift your chin, open your chest, engage your core ... walk slow, swing your hips a little and let yourself feel cool and sexy. ❤️🔥
🛏 Sleep naked
It's heaven for our skin, which has a chance to breathe after being smothered in clothing all day.
Wouldn't it be nice to feel the cool sheets over you rather than strangling and tangling in bedclothes?
It doesn't just feel good - research shows it's actually good for us!
Men, your boys stay cooler so sperm stays healthier.
Ladies may experience fewer yeast infections.
And, here's the kicker:
Sleeping naked actually helps balance certain hormones, like the stress hormone cortisol as well as the sleep hormone, melatonin!!
MmmHmm ... give it a try. It's for your health, honey.😉 And, be sure to be sleeping on cotton sheets. Sheets that contain polyester - yes, those cheap-ass "microfiber" sheets - will trap body heat because the damn things don't breathe. Not sexy. Ask me how I know. 😂 Stick to 100% cotton sheets and stay cool.
