So, I'm talking to my BFF, and she's a hot mess.
Over just the last 2 weeks, she's fallen on her ass HARD in the middle of Target and injured her tailbone, she threw up for 24-hours from the stomach flu, her 17 year old teenager got in a fender-bender that totalled her car, her husband has been working about 18 hours a day everyday, her darling 1 year-old toddler is teething and not letting her sleep through the night, she gets up most days at 5 am to run her own business ... and she happened to be seriously PMS-ing.
Her body's energy was begging her to stop the madness and take a time out.
But she still thought ... maybe she should just suck it up, get to the gym and force herself to be push harder.
Sound familiar??
Why is it that when we most need to slow down and take care of our needs and fill our cup, we feel guilty.
We can't take time out.
There's too much to DO.
Money to make. Family to care for. Obligations and commitments.
"So many of us grapple with feeling guilty and assume that it's a sign that what we're doing (or about to) is wrong. Often, though, experiencing guilt is out body's way of signaling that we are doing the rare thing of taking care of our needs."
~ Nat Lue
Yeeessss. ♥️
If you are the one who takes care of everyone else, you're gonna feel guilty when you take care of your own needs. That's when you know you're doing it right 😃
So ... what do you do when you feel run down? Love yourself by honoring the messages your body is giving you. Take it from a sister, and remember these simple things first:
Get outside. Put your face to the sun, breathe and move. Getting outside will naturally and immediately invigorate your energy. Do not discount the power of this simple concept. Try it now.
Grab some nettle tea. Stinging nettle is amazingly rich in vitamins and minerals and packs more energy per cup than any latte or espresso. In fact, there's no denser nutrition found in any plant, period. That's why it's my personal go-to herbal elixir to support all of my super powers. Go get some. *Making an infusion is best and it's super easy, trust. Here's how: Take about an ounce of the dried herb. Boil a quart of water. Put the dried herb into a quart mason jar and fill to the top with the boiling water. Stir with a wooden spoon and add water until the jar is full to the tippy top. Lid tightly and set aside to brew for at least four hours, or overnight, whichever is easier for you. It's not nearly as nourishing, but you can also simply grab some nettle tea bags and steep those suckers right in your cup for at least 10 minutes covered. Add a squeeze of lemon juice and sip away.
Cozy up. Time to rest and not feel guilty. When you feel run down, your body is giving you serious messages to slow down and rest. And, you know what? You have permission to listen to what your body needs. This is one of the greatest acts of love. Instead of pushing and depleting yourself even more, cozy up with your favorite throw, maybe a favorite magazine, journal, coloring book or Netflix binge and give yourself some much needed downtime. When you take care of yourself, everyone in your life benefits.
Rub this point. This acupuncture point is my favorite of all time and it's supremely supportive when we are rundown. Legend has it that when Chinese soldiers rubbed this point, it gave them the energy and vitality they needed to march another three miles! 😃I love ST 36 because it feeds us - it nourishes our energy to revitalize our overall well being, strengthens our core energy to support our immune system...and it's considered a miracle point for anything related to our digestion. Quite frankly, there's nothing this point can't support!! Rub it to invigorate, support and nourish your energy....or if you are feeling fatigued, nauseous, bloated, constipated, or have any digestive distress. Find it four finger widths down from the bottom of your knee cap, along the outer boundary of your shin bone.
